About this research

Spirituality has been defined as an awareness of a being or force that transcends the material aspects of life. And spiritual well-being is the pursuit of self development, encompassing aspects of existentialism, religiosity and life purpose, morality and ethics, peace with oneself, and self actualization If spirituality is central to one’s holistic well-being – life’s most fundamental task - then how is a spiritual life, the pinnacle of spiritual well-being, gained?

The present research commenced to better understand the following questions:

  • what is the pinnacle of a spiritual life
  • what are the antecedents to a (non-denominational) spiritual life
  • why should a spiritual life be sought by the individual (independent of race, gender, class, ethnicity or religiosity)
  • what are the steps all individuals must undertake to obtain a spiritual life, and
  • how does an individual know that they have attained the pinnacle of a spiritual life?

I appreciate that many of the above questions have no answer. However, spirituality and the pathfolding path towards self-actualisation and enlightmentent is a continuous journey - in this life and the next. So, one day ...

My primary research interest is spirituality and how people make meaning in their lives. Concurrently, I am also undertaking research into the following fields of psychology:

  • Organisational applications of the Cooke-Greuter's Leadership Development Framework (LDF)
  • Emotional Intelligence assessment and development using the Genos Emotional Intelligence Assessessment Scale, and
  • Social Network Analysis
